Problem you may be having, or feature you want:
Manual downloading of long episodes might take a while, but I might want to continue listening to it later when I have bad network, so streaming is not a good option.
Suggested solution:
Possibility to start listening to an episode while it is still downloading. Like if I start streaming the episode but it stays on the device and I can finish listening to it later, even if i don’t have a network connection.

I don’t know how difficult it is to implement this. The feature would be nice to have if it is not too much effort. Otherwise I can as well live without it, especially once it is possible to disable auto download when subscribing to new podcast, which i think is planned to be released with version 2.2.
