The episode can't be played normally

Android version: Android 16

Device model: Xiaomi 14

Expected behaviour: The episode can be played normally whether it is streamed or downloaded

Current behaviour: When I hit the play button, it didn’t response. At first I thought it was the streaming problem, so I downloaded the episode. But it didn’t work either.

First occurred: About three days ago.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Hit the play button of a new episode.
  2. It seemed to be added to the list but it didn’t.
  3. Hit the play button again and it disappeared. Never actually played.

Environment: I didn’t change any settings. (I don’t know if it’s related but the problem occurred after I deleted all the episodes I downloaded before. But all the episodes can’t be played right now.)

It works for most users (including myself), so I think we’ll need a bit more info to investigate. Can you tell us if this happens for one specific podcast only, and if so, share the RSS address of this podcast? (Easiest way: open the podcast, tap on the three dots in the top bar, and click ‘Share’)

It doesn’t happen for only one podcast. It happens to every episode of every podcast. And when I hit the play button of a new episode, it won’t be added to the queue.

I am thinking maybe I should delete the app and download it again to see if it will get back to normal.

I reinstalled the app but the problem is still there. None of the episodes can be played normally whether it is streamed or downloaded. Couldn’t figure out why. I tried the volume or any possible settings but failed.

The typical workflow is similar to the following. One can set subscriptions to auto-download into your queue.

Subscribe to podcasts

Perform a sync. This puts new episode entries into each subscription and into the Inbox.

From the Inbox, select podcast episodes and download them - The episodes should land in the Queue

From the Queue, launch your listening. You can reorder the queue as you see fit.

Thanks, hmm. The flickering of the miniplayer looks weird as well. I’m guessing something does not play well with your hardware audio decoder. Do other apps have similar problems when they play audio?

Ummm I don’t think so. The weird thing is that the problem kind of happened out of nowhere.

Let’s wait until you have version 3.12.0 and try again. If it is not fixed then, I would love to look at the more detailed logs. (The playback service was rewritten from scratch in 3.12, so logs from 3.11 will be very different to the recent version). The release is already in beta and slowly rolling out to everyone.

Hi there,

I’m having the same issue. Everything worksbl except playing the podcasts, also when downloaded an expisode.

Just downloaded Antannapod for the first time. Now version 13.11.4 on Android 14.

I’ll wait for the update to 13.12. Hope that fixes the issue, because the app looks really nice :slight_smile:

OK and thanks a lot for your response and hard work. The app is so good that I really don’t want to give it up. Looking forward to the new version and hopefully everything will be good again. ^⁠_⁠^
