I have spent my entire career in IT, with occasional breaks to play and record music. My IT career began as a programmer/analyst for the County of Alameda (Oakland, CA) in 1965. In 1980, I switched from “data processing” to telecommunications. This was a great fit for me due to my 15 years in IT and 23 years as an amateur radio licensee.
In 1988, I became and remain an independent IT consultant. Although my work in consulting has involved many aspects of IT, I have maintained my coding skills and I am conversant in most contemporary programming languages, although I dislike languages (alas, most) that do not adhere to perfect syntax rules, namely Algol.
My favorite programming job is teaching old code new tricks.
