Today something super weird happened in the app. This morning, I was still listening to podasts and I was able to download episodes from the inbox. Everything was just fine.
This afternoon, I saw an error message popping up while I was watching Netflix and did not use Antennapod. It said “Error with the automatic database backup. Can not access current database”
(text in English might be a little different because I had to translate it to English).
I did not worry about it and swiped it away. When I opened the app the next time, this afternoon, it looked like I installed it freshly
The whole app was just empty. No downloads, no followed podcasts, no nothing.
I was able to restore an existing backup (thanks God!) but… yeah… it’s 3 days old and for someone who listens by far too much podcasts it feels like weeks old. Well, at least it worked.
I have no clue what went wrong and I’m very happy I could at least restore an old version but overall it wasn’t the best experience. I hope this helps somehow to find the bug (if there was one). I’ve never experienced this before and use this app for (probably) something around 12 months.
Strange indeed. Either a rare bug that none have it (github issues search and forum search needed to qualify for that) or your phone’s file system is experiencing corruption.
If it’s the file system, you’ll probably want to take evasive action. Such as other strange file related actions.
That sounds pretty traumatic, I’m glad to hear that you were able to restore from a backup.
Good news: this is a known issue with some workarounds that may work
Bad news: the cause isn’t known so there isn’t a simple fix that will work for everyone
Back to the good news: having a backup is a great way to recover, and something you had available
Here’s the history along with some things people have tried for recovery:
