Antennapod is blocking screen recordings on Android

App version: 3.11.4 (9286bfb5f) (Google Play)

(I was on beta version 3.11.4. i switched back to the normal version (left beta & reinstalled the public/stable app version), and it is also 3.11.4)

Android version: 15, Motorola

5.10.240-android12-9-00006-g25161a557b20-ab14744618

Device model: moto g stylus 5G - 2024

Expected behaviour: Android screen recorder lets me record a clip of audio from Antennapod

Current behaviour: Screen recordings of Antennapod are silent, despite Screen Recorder being configured to record System Sound

First occurred: about 4-6 weeks ago, or longer. Maybe a month or 2.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Play any podcast audio in Antennapod
  2. Start Android screen recording with record system audio turned on
  3. Stop and save the screen recording
  4. View the recording.
  5. Audio from Antennapod is silent, but audio is captured from other apps, e.g. Firefox for Android, even in the same continuous recording.

Environment: I tested Android screen recording on another app, which it can record the sound of, but it can’t record any sound from Antennapod (as if the app implemented a DRM feature)

I wanted to check if anybody else has this issue. Is this a bug or an intended feature?

It was very nice when I could Screen Record Antennapod to share a clip of a podcast with friends. Now it’s impossible because Antennapod’s audio doesn’t come through in my screen recordings. Is this a new DRM feature ? (Or is it just my phone’s problem?)

Thanks !

There is a Share option built into AP which may be sufficient for your needs.

Tried on Android 16 and native recorder app can record system audio of a podcast that’s playing.

I have been using AP since around 2021. Back then, I was told that AP was just a user app, and would never place ads or force me to listen to ads (by removing the FF option only during an ad) because it wasn’t made for the purpose of monetization. But, I still have this FF issue during certain podcasts…

So, why would we even suspect the DRM was a consideration in preventing us from screencapping? Why is that even a consideration from a non- corporate, non-monetized, opensource coded product? Has the situation changed?

AntennaPod is not blocking anything and is not using any DRM. This is likely some problem with your device settings or operating system.
