AntennaPod keeps pausing /stopping every 30-60 secs

App version: x.y.z (state whether from Google Play/F-Droid/Custom built APK) Google Play

Android version: 5.x (Please mention if you are using a custom rom!) version 3.8.0

Device model: Google pixel 8

Expected behaviour: I press play and it plays until either I stop it, or the podcast finishes or the timer turns it off

Current behaviour: I press play and every 30 seconds or something the podcast stops playing and I then have to press play again and this repeats over and over and over.
At most it plays for about 50 or 60 secs but usually it’s less.

First occurred: (e.g. about x days/weeks ago) I first noticed this this week , during the last few days.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. This
  2. Then that
  3. Then this
  4. Etc.
Sorry I’m not sure what I’m meant to write here.

Environment: (Settings you have changed (e.g. Auto Download). “Unusual” devices you use (e.g. Bluetooth headphones). Did you select another media player?)
This happens when I play antennapod on my phone and on my headphones. I don’t think I’ve changed any settings knowingly! This happens when I play podcasts from the queue and individual one off ones that I’ve not added to the queue.

I would really appreciate it if anyone could advise me on how to fix this , is it something I’m doing ?

Thank you in advance

I’m experiencing the same issue.

I am also experiencing this and it started maybe last week. No changes to report in Phone/operating system.

Thank you for replying
At least now I know it’s not something I’ve done / or am doing !

No idea how to fix it though. Hoping maybe an update might sort it ? But no idea really.

Unfortunately the app becomes unusable like this , very frustrating.

Let’s hope someone has some ideas!

Deleting and reinstalling the app solved the problem.
Be aware: all subscriptions and downloads wil be lost!

This should not be a problem if the database is exported prior to deleting the app and then umported into the new installation (unless something in the database is the cause of the problem).

Thank you

No more pausing / stopping once you’ve reinstalled?

@Listener

Thanks! I will try this and see what happens.

Worked fine for a while but now the issue is back

I was going to say this has worked so far for me, but I’ve just seen the latest message from @Michiel_Poell saying the issue is back so I will have to see what happens
Very frustrating.

The (only) solution is to never stream. Always download. This is mentioned here on the forum in dozens of threads. We should really remove the “stream” button but then a bunch of users will be frustrated as well

I wonder if there’s a middle ground, like not allowing streaming on mobile data. I have disabled that and it might make sense to remove the Streaming option from the Mobile Updates menu.

Thank you for the advice @ByteHamster
I will ensure I always download and not stream.

Hi @Michiel_Poell , have you found that not streaming and only downloading has helped resolve the issue ?
So far mine is still working since I uninstalled and reinstalled the app.

I have a similar issue, though I’m not sure if it’s exactly the same. Do you experience the problem only while streaming? I’ve downloaded some episodes, but AntennaPod randomly stops playing them after a few minutes.
If it’s already a known bug, what’s preventing it from being fixed?

It’s an intermittent issue and not seen by everyone. It can’t really be fixed until it is repeatable, so if you are able to consistently repeat the issue that would be really helpful.

@xatexen
I experienced the issue with downloaded episodes as well.
However I had streamed some whilst I was out too.
So I don’t know if the streaming caused the app to glitch with the downloaded episodes too.

Since I uninstalled and reinstalled the app, and only downloaded and never streamed , I have not had a repeat of the problem : so far.
However I know others thought their issue was fixed and then it happened again so I am expecting it to go wrong any day ! Hope it doesn’t though!

@Listener
I am not very tech savvy at all so I’m just wondering how would we be able to show the issue as consistently repeatable? Report it here each time it happens?
Sorry if this seems a silly question, I’m not very good at all this !! Thank you ..

Hi @Steven_Terry
Just wondering if you are still having this issue ?

That’s a perfectly legitimate question.

Have you ever had an unusual problem with a vehicle? Especially an issue that’s difficult to describe, and that refuses to show itself when a mechanic is present? It’s really hard to fix something that can’t be readily reproduced. Relative to AntennaPod (or any other software), it’s hard to address if there isn’t a step-by-step method of reproducing the issue. That’s why this section at the top of this request for support is included:

If you are able to reproduce the issue you can document it something like this:

  1. Stream “Super Duper Podcast” episodes using mobile data [the least reliable way to listen to podcasts by the way]
  2. Connect “Very Best, Model 5” Bluetooth headsets
  3. Press Play button in Android Auto

Obviously I made that up, but if you could consistently repeat the issue and document it like that it would be a lot more straightforward to figure out what’s happening. Likewise, it helps to know your setup when you don’t experience that problem. I.E.: At home, connected via reliable Wi-Fi, downloading episodes of “Even Better Podcast” before playing.
