App bypassing my paid patreon RSS feed

I’m looking for a way to get in contact with admin or staff. I can see the admins listed here About - AntennaPod Forum but that page doesn’t tell me how to reach out to them directly. Maybe tagging works here? @ByteHamster @keunes

I’m a podcast creator. My shows have a free rss feed and a paid only patreon rss feed.

One of my listeners noticed that a paid feed is available for free on this app. This needs to be taken down.

Could an admin please reach out so we can solve this issue? Thanks.

AntennaPod does not have its own podcast directory. It searches on Apple Podcasts and on Podcast Index. This means that one of these two directories has the wrong RSS address. Check out which one it is and contact the directory. This then not only fixes it in AntennaPod, but in all apps that use those directories.

Thanks for the response. I followed your suggestion and here’s what I found. I think there may be more to this.

Searching both Apple and Podcast Index confirms that their listings are correct.** They both show only a single feed for “Elder Scrolls Lorecast: Skyrim, Oblivion, ESO and TES VI Video Game Lore & More.” This is what shows up when searching “Elder Scrolls Lorecast” or even “Elder Scrolls” and scrolling down every other entry with those words.

The Patreon feed only shows up on Spotify, and can only be accessed by current paying patrons.

Maybe this info will help.

On this app there are two listing of “Elder Scrolls Lorecast.” One is correct. It shows up higher in searches and shows Robots Radio under the title. The 2nd is the patron feed with the name Rose Meuli under the title, and shows “No Ads!” at the end of title. This confirms it’s the patreon feed, and I have no idea who Rose is.

Is there another method that someone could have added a Patreon feed to the app? Is the app also crawling Spotify and able to somehow access protected feeds?

If it didn’t pull this RSS from Apple or Podcast Index, how did it get on the app?

Even if we can’t determine exactly how it ended up here, there’s got to be a manual way in the back end to disable a feed, right?

Thanks again for your help with this.

That second entry you mentioned points to this. Seems to be some type of I(heart)Radio property of sorts. Likely someone is moving your episdes and replublishing them for others.to this location. They have big bank accounts, but also probably lawyers.

Interesting… why would it be pulling in here, then?

Also, I previously hosted on Spreaker and moved services, but never shared this patreon RSS with them. I’ll be contacting them to take this down.

Thanks for taking the time to help discover this.

Some global or partially global podcast index probably scrapes spreaker’s site. Thus it appears. As @ByteHamster said, AntennaPod just searches known indexes and doesn’t have any of that infrastrucuture set up.

I can’t imagine how creators like yourself deal with this whack-a-mole stuff.

A closer look shows your feed as being hosted by Spreaker: Elder Scrolls Lorecast Patreon Feed - No Ads!

I’m not sure how or why, but I’d suggest contacting Spreaker directly to ask them to take this down. You could also send them a DMCA takedown notice, which they would be obligated to comply with after receiving.

Podcast Index also has this one: Elder Scrolls Lorecast Patreon Feed - No Ads! | Podcastindex.org This is how it ends up in AntennaPod. I can’t find a report button on their website, maybe you could send them an email to info@podcastindex.org?

Contracting Podcast Index will only remove the search listing, though, and not the fact that this RSS feed is available. It is also on the Spreaker website: Elder Scrolls Lorecast Patreon Feed - No Ads! so I think contacting Spreaker might be best (as already mentioned by others in this thread). This will remove it at the source to get it removed everywhere.

No, only Podcast Index and Apple Podcasts (actually also fyyd but not in the default search, only if you explicitly select it). It seems to be coming only from PodcastIndex though.

No, AntennaPod does not have a back end. The app does not have any server, it just connects directly to Podcast Index and Apple Podcasts for search. To refresh, it connects directly to the feeds.

Ok, thanks. And thanks everyone for the advice.

I also noticed that it was hosted on Spreaker under the same user name. Coincidentally, they used the same name when signing up on Patreon, so I’ve sent them a message asking them to close it on Spreaker. We’ll see what happens.

If not, you might have to contact Spreaker directly instead of just the person uploading it

Thanks again for your help with figuring this out. I really do appreciate it.

I contacted the user and they took the feed down.

Also, I’m glad I found your app. It works well and seems to be run by people with integrity. I’ll be recommending it to listeners.

Please close down or delete this thread when you can. Thanks again.
