Expected behaviour:
Auto download of episodes for this podcast
https://anchor.fm/s/1025ef1c/podcast/rss
Current behaviour:
I successfully use auto download on all my podcasts. However, there is one podcast that fails to automatically download. New podcasts are detected and added to the episodes list. I have to manually download each individual episode when they appear.
First occurred: (e.g. about x days/weeks ago)
I think I have always had an issue with this podcast. So I’d say it first occurred 12 months ago.
Steps to reproduce:
“Include in auto downloads” Enabled
Environment: (Settings you have changed (e.g. Auto Download). “Unusual” devices you use (e.g. Bluetooth headphones). Did you select another media player?)
Is any way to enable debug or some form of logging. I would then be able to understand what is happening with this podcast and why it’s not downloading.
Are you able to manually download episodes from this podcast successfully?
Yes. I can manually download, with no problems.
Another piece of information, that might help.
As I said “New podcasts are detected and added to the episodes list.” A newly detected episode has the downward arrow to show it has still to be downloaded.
However, the episode is greyed out to show it is marked as having been played.
How can it be marked as played if it has not been downloaded?
The Episode view will show every episode in every subscription.
I filter my Episodes on Not Played, and Downloaded.
I use my Inbox for the decision to Download or Remove from Inbox or Mark as played.
Inspect the RSS feed. I wonder if the episodes have a common media file name, like Daily4pm.mp3
Can you post a couple rss snippets of two different episodes? And/Or provide the RSS URL.
Hi @andbenn,
The RSS is in the problem statement. Here it is again.
https://anchor.fm/s/1025ef1c/podcast/rss
Thanks! It would be interesting to see if you can find an issue in it. I did run it through a “Validator”, without an issue.
Ah, whoops, right, it was in the original post. Missed that completely!
I’ve subscribed to the podcast and have it set for auto download new episodes. Let me check next few days and I’ll follow up.
Thanks @andbenn
One thing I did notice is that the RSS text file seems to be very large. Could there be a size issue.
The only other thing is that I can think, is that this is an Australian podcast. Could there be a timezone problem? (I’m in the UK).
These are the only general thoughts I have. Otherwise the issue could be quite specific.
Size of the file shouldn’t matter, assuming your phone has available disk space. This is just over 16k lines. I have some podcasts which are larger.
Don’t think timezone would be a problem. The dates I’ve seen in this feed are GMT. Assuming the format is good and the app parses it, unless I’m overlooking something.

@Peter_Murray The Saturday of Week 10 episode was downloaded and put into my Queue as I expected after configuring the RSS feed yesterday and refreshing my inbox.
Looks ok to me. You may want to consider deleting and recreating the subscription if the episodes aren’t downloading and queing. Maybe.
@andbenn I had thought about doing that, but I understand that all my paying stats would be lost Anyway, I think that is my next option.
Thanks
Maybe consider a database export, then wipe your app data, and reimport your just made export? I’m not sure though, but I’d probably do that.
Today’s (or the next one) episode arrived, that’s 2 for 2.
Firstly,vi tried clearing the full data cache. Again it didn’t automatically download the episode.
Then, as suggested, I exported the database, did a full uninstall, then reinstall, and imported the database. Agan, no luck with the auto download.
I have no further ideas.
Last option would be to unsub from the podcast (perhaps noting that episodes you have and have not listened to, and add it back.
I can only think that maybe you have some settings or database corruption.
@andbenn - We have it fixed! After unsubscribing, and then resubscribing, the updates are being made correctly now.
As you said there must have been corruption in the database.
It’s unfortunate that I had to unsubscribe, but it’s all looking good now.
Many thanks for staying with this issue!
