Basic operation

App Version: 3.6.0 (from Google Play)
Android Version: 15 (Pixel 9)

I recently downloaded the app and got it working, no issues at all—I’m actually listening as I type this. I switched to this app after my previous podcast app failed to install on my new phone about three months ago.

However, I have a few questions that I couldn’t resolve through searching:

  1. Auto-download not working as expected
I have set the global auto-download setting to download up to 5 episodes for all podcasts. Despite this, I still have to manually go to the Inbox or Queue and press the download button for episodes. Is this the intended behavior, or am I missing something in the setup?

  2. Inbox vs. Queue: What’s the difference?
I don’t fully understand the distinction between the Inbox and the Queue. I see episodes in both places that need to be downloaded, but the Queue contains a mix of downloaded episodes and those ready to be downloaded. Could you clarify how these two sections are meant to function?

What I want to achieve:

  • Episodes that are ready to download should download automatically, based on the global setting I configured. This doesn’t seem to be working as I expected.

  • Episodes exceeding the 5-episode limit should be automatically removed from my device. I listen to a lot of news podcasts, and anything older than 5 episodes is essentially outdated.

  • I like the layout of the Subscriptions page, but the tiles seem to move around unpredictably. Is there a way to organize or lock their positions?

  • When playing podcast episodes, I want the player to automatically move to the next available episode or, if none are left, to the next podcast with available episodes. Sometimes this happens, but other times, playback stops after a single episode. I suspect it depends on how I initiate playback, but by the time I notice it has stopped, I’ve forgotten how I started it.

Any help or guidance on these issues would be greatly appreciated!

If you set the limit to 5 and already have 5 downloaded, further downloads stop until you delete an episode.

Yes, by choosing “sort” on that page.

This does not seem to be working, I just had a look at my subscriptions and there are a number of podcasts that have unplayed episodes, less than 5, and show additional episode(s) available to DL. But they are not doing so automatically.

I have just changed “Delete before auto download” from “after played” to “when not in queue”. Perhaps that is what I have wrong here.

OK, I see that, not what I had in mind but at least it stops them from shifting about.

I was hoping to be able to drag them to a specific position and have them stay there.

That number from the settings screen is the total number, for all subscriptions together.

Total for all subscriptions? Wow. OK that was not clear. So is there some distribution scheme? Like if I subscribe to 30 podcasts and set this number at 60 does it allocate 2 per podcast or is it just the first 60 that make it through the door?

Yes.

We are currently working on adding an option to customize that
