Batteries been draining fast on a brand new phone. Took a look at battery usage under battery applications. + See that antenna pod was at 24%. I have less than a dozen subscriptions and only have automatic checking for updates once an hour. Draw is very high considering that I’m not listening to podcasts very much. I’m at work. I’m asleep. Don’t understand why the draw is so high or how to correct it.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

Can’t help but I have the same problem, also on a Pixel 8a.
AntennaPod is by far the app that draws most power, even when I’m not listening to podcasts.
Currently looking for alternatives to AntennaPod even though it’s a shame.

Charge your phone to 100% and then restart it. In almost all cases we had in the past, the battery consumption got attributed to the wrong app and was not actually caused by AntennaPod

It’s true that I only charge my phone to 80% (preserve battery), so theres a good chance this might work. Thanks!

P.S: Do you have any idea why this wrong attribution happens?

Do you use the home screen widget?

Charged phone to 100%, rebooted it, actually shutdown and restart rather than reboot.
Noted that battery usage by app is from last full change rather than most recent reboot, so I now understand
why charging it was important.

Several days have gone by, checked battery usage, Antennapod is 30% of battery usage.

Just shut off bluetooth, keep forgetting to do that. No headphone jack in Pixel 8a, see what happens now.
AntennaPod vs Bluetooth, if there is an issue with attribution of battery usage we’ll find out if its bluetooth, there
is a connection between these two things.

Will keep you posted.
thanks - Brian

30% without playback? That sounds a lot. How many subscriptions do you have and what update frequency did you select on the settings screen?

I have 10 subscriptions and when I’d noticed the higher then expected usage changed to update frequency from one to two hours.
I notice the battery indicator is showing a less steep decline in the last few hours, and overall usage is back to 25%.
I wonder if this isn’t an artifact from having had bluetooth enabled.

The new phone, 8a upgraded from 4a lacks a headphone jack, so I purchased a bluetooth dongle for the car, which lacks native bluetooth.

Will keep an eye and be more careful about the bluetooth settings on the phone.

Bluetooth does not show as an independent application, but I would still be surprised if usage was attributed to AntennaPod.

thanks - Brian

So you use synchronization (to Nextcloud, gpodder, etc)?

I am not using the synchronize function. When I move to the new phone I did an import but never a synchronize.

When I was out at dinner yesterday usage moved from 25 to 28% because I had turned on. I assumed it was because I turned on Bluetooth when I was driving to the restaurant and left it on while I ate and did not shut it till I got home. But it’s now at 42%. I show about 5 hours of standby time and about 7 minutes of screen time and have no idea what’s actually causing the recorded percentage to be so high. That is percentage of battery as displayed by the phone utilization. I assume that’s a true reflection of usage but I don’t know that.

Thank you.

Try enabling AntennaPod notifications to see if the app is doing something (downloading, refreshing, etc)

My notifications have been enabled. If they’re not persistent where I would see them at in the active notifications list, then I may be missing them entirely because I’m not aware of receiving them. Sell them notice when my phone makes noises depending on the noise. This probably says a lot more about me than it does about antennapod’s notification system.

When I do look at notifications that I get from other things that remain persistent until dismissed, I do not see antennapod notifications displayed. Should they be persistent in that way?

No, they are not persistent. Just displayed while refreshing/downloading

I absolutely do see the display update + have a banner across the bottom of the screen when I delete an episode from a queue or inbox, but I’m not seeing anything other than that.

If I’m getting temporary notices when the update interval hits, I’m not aware of it because I’m not noticing a noise if there is one and I am not looking at the screen when it occurs.

I’m seeing background time of an hour 42 since I charged last night before bed. While I did listen for a few minutes before going to sleep, you know perhaps 15 minutes. The refresh interval is 2 hours. I’m surprised at the amount of time it seems to have consumed.

The percentage of battery reported as used by antennapod seems kind of high but the phone is new. The battery is good and the overall usage is low enough that it’s not giving me a problem.

I like it as an app. I am not looking to replace it with anything but I am curious as to it’s reported consumption of battery

Thanks, much

I updated to Android 15 and the percentage battery usage for antennapod dropped from about 30% to about 15%.

. Really surprised that an OS update did that and doesn’t seem to have affected anything else. I had been starting to wonder if it was the way antenna pod did its weight between checking for new episodes, but since the antenna pod hadn’t received an update that does not seem to have been a valid guess.

What can I tell you? It’s all about the science right?

Still the draw is about 15% of battery where I would expect it to draw no more than the email apps do.

Whatever it is is vastly improved and I appreciate whatever the change was whether it was the OS or the app. I hope for continued improvement.

Thanks for your support.
