Yes, backporting certificates would work, but I don’t think that is a great solution.
The best solution would be to do what browsers do, which is when they find a broken chain with a missing certificate in the chain, they download it and continue. Browsers also cache these intermediate certificates, but I don’t think that’s sensible.
Meanwhile, I sent an email to the owner of tele-task, pointing out the chain problem. If they fix the chain and Antenna Pod starts working, then that’ll be confirmation that this is the cause of the error message.
Both podcasts open just fine and episodes download without any issue as well.
Does it work for you again? Maybe someone in the chain of service providers of the podcast hosting company fixed something, as was the case for @smoke. Or my debice has more certificates than yours (but I doubt that’s it, because your Android is more recent).
Unable to establish a secure connection. This can mean that another app on your device (like a VPN or an ad blocker) blocked the download, or that something is wrong with the server certificates.

I have a similar issue. I get the following error for all the podcasts that I try to play or refresh. When I reinstall the AntennaPod app the issue resolves, only to come back again after an hr or so of playing podcasts. GrapheneOS. I love the app and hope I can find a fix!
Error
- Try deleting and re-downloading the episode.
- Check your network connection, and make sure no VPN or login page is blocking access.
- Try long-pressing and sharing the “Media address” to your web browser to see if it can be played there. If not contact the podcast creators.

I’ve been having the same issue for several weeks now as well. Initially it was for multiple podcasts, but now it’s just for A More Civilized Age: A Star Wars Podcast. I think they updated their hosting platform or something, because when I unsubscribed and then searched for the podcast again through Antennapod’s app, I was able to subscribe to again and when I checked the URL for the RSS feed, it was different (A More Civilized Age: A Star Wars Podcast as opposed to simply amorecivilizedage.net/rss). Either way, it’s fixed for now. TBD if it stays this way since several others have said this only fixed it temporarily…
