I am not sure if this is a real bug, or just the way that things are in an Android environment. Still, I wanted to share.
I am using Antennapod on an Android 12 phone, with a MIUI 14 skin (Poco X3). Since I am frequently in low coverage areas, I love the option to download episodes in advance. However, there is a catch, and I often find my downloads folder empty.
I assume that since I am using the app just through the lock screen widget or the notification shade widget, and not actually entering the app, the scheduled downloads do not start. Might this be the case?
Is there a way to have the episodes downloaded even if I forget to enter the app and start the process manually?
I’m a big of downloading episodes in advance just as you are. It definitely helps in low-coverage (or no-coverage) areas.
You are correct that the widget does not remain active while you’re not actively using AntennaPod. You’ll want to perform activities like downloading from the app itself. If the presence of the widget is concerning, you can disable the “Persistent playback controls” element in the User Interface settings menu.
I didn’t fully understand what you meant when you said that the widget does not remain active. I use the widget constantly without ever opening the app, and it works flawlessly. It’s the app itself that seems to get inactive somehow.
I’m also unsure about when the app decides to download episodes. It’s not as consistent as I would expect based on the options available in the settings.
There must be a way to make it work even if I only access the app through the widget. Otherwise, at least a button could be added on the widget to manually start the download process…
I’m not sure what the issue is that you’re experiencing @Listener; is it that you enabled Automatic download but it’s not working as you expect, or you manually initiated some downloads that don’t get finished when you leave the app?
(Note that starting a download from the widget is not possible; that would have to be a feature request.)
Hi @keunes
The issue is that automatic downloads do not work as expected.
I don’t enter ever in the app, I just use the widget. So even if I have set that I’d like to have 10 episodes downloaded, they are not.
I think that the app should be able to do this regardless…
