Feature Suggestion: Integration of Audius Music's Free API into AntennaPod

Introduction:

AntennaPod is a popular open-source podcast manager known for its user-friendly interface and robust feature set.

To enhance the user experience and broaden the content available through the app, I would like to propose the potential integration of Audius Music’s Free API into AntennaPod.

Audius is a decentralized music streaming platform that offers a wide range of music content, which could complement AntennaPod’s existing podcast offerings.

Benefits of Integration

  1. Expanded Content Library: By integrating Audius, AntennaPod users would gain access to a diverse range of music tracks, thereby enriching the app’s content library beyond podcasts.

  2. Enhanced User Experience: Users who enjoy both podcasts and music could seamlessly switch between the two within a single app, improving convenience and user satisfaction.

  3. Increased User Engagement: Offering a wider variety of content could lead to increased user engagement and retention, as users would have more reasons to spend time on the app.

  4. Attracting New Users: The integration could attract new users who are interested in both podcasts and music, thereby expanding AntennaPod’s user base.

Implementation Considerations

  1. API Integration: The development team would need to explore the technical requirements for integrating Audius Music’s Free API, ensuring it aligns with AntennaPod’s existing architecture.

  2. User Interface Design: The app’s interface may need adjustments to accommodate the new music content, ensuring a seamless and intuitive user experience.

  3. Content Discovery: Implement features that allow users to easily discover and explore music tracks alongside podcasts, such as curated playlists or personalized recommendations.

  4. Licensing and Compliance: Ensure that the integration complies with Audius’s terms of service and any relevant licensing agreements.

Conclusion

Integrating Audius Music’s Free API into AntennaPod could SIGNIFICANTLY enhance the app’s value proposition by offering a more comprehensive audio content experience.

This feature could attract new users, increase engagement, and improve overall user satisfaction.

I encourage the AntennaPod team to consider this suggestion and explore the potential benefits it could bring to the app and its community.

IMHO music is not listened the same as podcast and I think it requires to do a lot of things differently.

First AntennaPod would need to support multiple queues which is a long standing feature request.
Second it would certainly needs a lot adjustments and I am not quite sure it’s in line with “keep it simple” philosophy.

Not to be pessimistic but I think it will likely be rejected for those reasons.
My own opinion is also AntennaPod should focus on podcast and be really good at it.
There is already multiple things waiting to be improve : multiple queues, better player UI (with big button for play), not make every new subscriptions to auto download (when it has been turn on globally), and so on. Nicely there is 1 huge feature that just landed and another I believe in good progress.

Only been using the app a week so my opinion may not count for much, but I’m using this app for podcasts. My overall listening time is probably 99.9% and 0.1 music, so wouldn’t need the two integrated.

Last month was your first post here when you suggested integrating NOSTR “social podcasting” into AntennaPod.

Now it’s a music API:

Since neither is related to actually listening to podcasts, and the pitches are curiously similar in their layouts and use of links, I have to wonder: Are you somehow compensated or otherwise recognized for submitting these suggestions?

I agree with music playing being a sufficiently different activity to it not sitting happily when trying to integrate it with podcast playing. You only have to look at Spotify and BBC Sounds to see what a mish mash of poor usability you end up with.
