Is there a way to automatically play/queue the next episode of a podcast?

App version:
3.8.0 (Google Play)

Question:
I added a podcast via an RSS link. The podcast currently has ~170 episodes which are meant to be listened to in order. I stream the episodes and don’t download them beforehand.

As a new user of AntennaPod, when the episode I am listening to ends, I expect the next episode to either:

  • Starts playing automatically
  • Enqueued
  • Be able to quickly play it from the Home screen

However, either this isn’t supported, or I am doing something wrong.

Is there any way to quickly/easily go to the next episode?"

In the Home screen, I can see the episodes I played, the episode I’m currently listening to, and the latest episode of the podcast.

IMHO you have to add episodes to your queue. It’s the only way since AntennaPod is queue centric and has no multiples queues support. (Old feature requests exists for it)

I would also recommend downloading instead of streaming. A lot of people report problem with streaming but I never experienced any with downloading. Besides I don’t understand what are streaming advantages. Unless if it is to use less data because episodes are not fully listened. (Yet mobile data would be used instead of your own WiFi network when downloading at home for instance)

Curious! In my experience (just over a year), I’ve always used streaming and never had any problems with it. I’ve just never bothered to access old episodes instantly, it never happened to me, so I don’t see the point, for me, in downloading.

You obviously don’t live or work in an area with dodgy internet coverage while on the move, Streaming live sports coverage while driving can be a nightmare round here!

Thanks, that worked (although I had to reorder the queue because by default, the queue was going backwards). That’s an acceptable workaround for me as I am only listening to one podcast. Not sure how others that listen to several podcasts solve this. Looking for the next episode to listen to while driving is both cumbersome and dangerous.

As for streaming vs downloading, I don’t have issues with streaming. It works well in my case. But I don’t listen to live streams and don’t need the podcast to be available offline.

Thanks for the info! I’m currently trying to catch up on a couple different podcasts and I’m having to use this method as well. It’s not great, and I have to keep track of which episode I’m on, but it still works.

Antennapod is still the best podcast player I’ve used by far — this is just a little caveat if anything.

When catching-up on podcasts I’d recommend filtering them to display un-heard episodes. I also display the oldest episode at the top, so it’s easy to download the oldest unheard episodes for your queue.

That’s exactly what I also do.

And for those who don’t know when tapping an episode in queue and then taping podcast thumbnail it opens podcast screen allowing to add other episodes. (Beside opening it with 3 dots menu from episode and player view)
