From what I read counter options and subscriptions sorting would be merged and sorting alphabetically + having a counter won’t be possible ?
Hope it’s not that, it would be really annoying not having subscriptions alphabetically sorted.
After several read I am still not sure but it looks like it. Hope I am wrong.
For counter I use unread episodes.
It’s what seems most logical to me and allow to know if a podcast has some old episodes I didn’t read.
I am sorting alphabetically because when I am looking for a podcast it’s what’s the most efficient. With other sorts it’s tedious to find a particular podcast.
Often there is a specific subscription that I want to catch up to and when my queue is not too full I add some episodes from it.
Besides alphabetically sorted list is much more convenient as your subscriptions don’t keep changing order each time new episodes are released.
What worry me is not being able anymore to have alphabetical sort.
(In the scenario where we merge Sort & Counter:) As such alphabetical sorting would remain possible. But you wouldn’t be able to display a number at the same time.
I didn’t mention this in the meeting, but I do actually do this as well – I’ve relatively recently changed this, because finding a specific podcast otherwise is a pain.
The question is whether I would miss the numbers in the new situation. I think I won’t; it’s nice but I never really look at them. Do you actually use the number indications @Matth78? Would you miss them if gone (in case alphabetical sorting is set)?
I’m currently using sorting by unread count and display unread count. However if I where to switch to alphabetical order (pondering a bit) I would find it very helpful to have number of unread episodes displayed (I don’t see any other option sensible/useful for me)
I probably wouldn’t miss them. And I wouldn’t ask to bring them back.
Yet UI wise it’s a little strange not to have any counters and it wouldn’t surprise me to have people thinking it’s a missing implementation.
A solution could be to choose with a drop down menu how to sort : alphabetically or counter.
When doing so present to user which counter to display or to use sorting on.
For instance :
sort using : alphabetical
choose which counter to display :
unread, inbox, …
Or if using counter :
sort using : counter
choose which counter to sort on :
unread, inbox, …
It would allow to merge sort choice and counter choice into one dialog.
Then again, regarding my workflow I don’t really care as long I can have alphabetical order!
Our idea was to use the ‘bottom sheet’ for sorting, like elsewhere in the app. But maybe we could have a bottom sheet that does both the sorting & setting the counter, as you suggest. I think that could work. @ByteHamster, WDYT?
I would miss not seeing the unplayed episode counter on the Subscriptions screen. I have several comedy podcasts which I play once a day and I use the counter to remind me who’s turn it is to play. A niche use case I accept but there you are.
Doesn’t that mean we would have a very long dialog with a huge wall of settings? I’m not against it, but I currently can’t really imagine how it would look like. We would probably need a proper mock-up
