Migration of unlistened audio files from Castbox

Hello ladies and fellas.

I’m in the process of moving away from Castbox to something less ads-y.
I’ve already exported my subscriptions (haven’t yet actually installed AP, just trying to find out if it’s worth it).

Here’s the fun part: I have 80ish GBs of episodes I haven’t yet listened to and I’m doing my daily best to make this size smaller.

My question: is it possible to move the episodes (whicher are in their own channels’ folders) from Castbox to whatever “files” folder AP creates upon installation and keeps all downloaded episodes in? And by possible I mean, will AP see these episodes and play them normally?

I guess plan B is to download new episodes with AP and take Castbox offline (I use NetGuard on Samsung A50). The problem is the latter uses some Google service to download episodes even if I take Castbox completely offline with NetGuard. Therefore I’d need to unsubscribe everything from it after installing AP and importing subscriptions. Point being, I’d really hate basically having two apps doing the same thing; listening old episodes in one and newer episodes in the other.

Makes sense? tl;dr will the downloaded unlistened episodes from Castbox be recognised and playable when moved into AP’s own “downloaded episodes” folder?

Thanks for the feedback. Cheers.

I don’t think so. People have tried directly moving files in or out of AP’s own file system and had problems. AP can read external files, but that’s not exactly what you asked.

I can do this sort of thing on my old Android 7 tablet but newer versions of Android cracked down on apps accessing folders outside their own app-sphere.

Don’t know how the likes of the third party File Manager+ app I use are still able to see everything though.

While I can’t access any folder under Android/data from phone, I can access them just fine from let’s say, Windows 10. Copy, move, rename, delete, you name it.

And if I can do that and if AP’s downloaded podcasts folder is somewhere in Android/data, then the moving of the files shouldn’t be a problem.

The only “unknown" I’m dealing with here is if AP will read these moved podcasts (as far as I noticed, they’re all .mp3).

Keep in mind, my phone’s old Galaxy A50 with Android 11 on it.

You cannot just place the files somewhere. They need to be downloaded from within AntennaPod to be in its internal database. You can add those files to AntennaPod using “add local folder” for the transition period but they will not be linked to a specific podcast then.

This pretty much answers it then.

I’ll finish the old episodes in Castbox and listen to new ones in AP. It’ll take some time but… :man_shrugging:

Thanks everyone.
