Multiple failures, network access problem following update?

App version: 3.10.1 (0badf4226)

Android version: 5.1.1

Device model:Samsung J1 2016

>1GB internal storage free, >11GB (default) SD storage free

WiFi only used; mobile data disable on phone and all mobile updates disabled in app. No other app or function on phone appears to be failing or misbehaving, just AntennaPod.

Expected behaviour: Normal operation

Current behaviour: Multiple failures. Look to me like it is network-related as remote access seems a common factor? Details follow :

Any remote access appears to fail, subscription and episode images fail to display.

Opening Subscriptions lists them, but all thumbnail images are blank. Opening a subscription (mostly) correctly lists episodes, but again with no images. However at least one subscription has had its contents scrambled and replaced with large number of identical copies of the single most recent episode.

Similarly, most though not all images are now blank in Downloads list.

Attempting to download an episode from a subscription appears to work at first, with the loading animation getting to 100%, but the circle then winds backwards again and no episode appears in Downloads. Phone notification continues to display “Downloading“ message showing 100% completed, it does not get removed until phone is restarted.

Existing downloads do play (and delete) correctly, however opening an episode to view details leads to blank page and spinning icon.

Inbox appears to no longer find new podcasts and remains empty.

Selecting “bug report” produces blank screen and crashes application so I cannot access a crash log or any other info from that option.

First occurred: Images and episode details failed about 1 week ago, and everything else failed 2 days ago so am guessing it’s connected to the latest update?

Steps to reproduce: Any operation described above

Environment:No recent changes, no new software installed on phone, app has been working perfectly for past year.

This could be related to No static method withInitial · Issue #8096 · AntennaPod/AntennaPod · GitHub The issue has now been closed and should be fixed in next version. Fdroid seems to still have version 3.9.0, so you could roll back if you need a quick fix.

Thanks for the info; tried to get f-droid but sadly that won’t install - parse error. Possibly my android is too old (5.1)? Will look for an alternative app until next version is released :frowning: Do we know when that is likely to be?

Well said. Antenna Pod has been my dream podcast app for years. This last update has forsaken me and many others I now see.

Please return to the last version. I can’t get Fdroid either. I miss you Antenna Pod!

Everything okay again!!! Jippie!!!

This won’t last long, unfortunately. Your phone is too old to ship recent certificates. We worked around that in AntennaPod by white-listing a couple of certificates even if the system does not trust them, but more and more certificates will get upgraded (and therefore become incompatible with your phone) in the future.

Ahh thanks for explaining, that finally makes sense. Damn, I’d just reinstalled and found it worked perfectly again too! I am planning on upgrading my phone, so hopefully e can hold out for another month or two.
