The feature you’re looking for has already been implemented. You can access it by going to:
Queue page > Three-dot menu > Sort

From there, you can choose your filters - including Date (tap multiple times to toggle between ascending and descending order).

Hi,
Sorry to revive this thread but what you describe sorts the queue according to the date when the episode was released. I would love to see the feature of sorting the queue according to the date the episode was added to the queue. I have a very long queue which I sorted according to podcast and I was sure I would be able to come back to my original order and unfortunately I found out too late that this is impossible.

You’re absolutely right. On YouTube Music, for example, you can sort a playlist by ‘Newest first’ or ‘Newest last’. It would be nice to have this option here aswell.
