Newly receiving authentication error on download starting this week

App version: 3.11.4 (state whether from Google Play/F-Droid/Custom built APK)

Android version: 16 (Please mention if you are using a custom rom!)

Device model: Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra

Expected behaviour: Podcast episodes download as normal.

Current behaviour: Podcast episode fails to download, providing error “Authentication error. Make sure that username and password are correct.”

First occurred: Around 3 days ago

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Be subscribed to the Hyperfixed premium podcast https://www.hyperfixedpod.com
  2. Add podcast to AntennaPod via the “manual link setup” which is a link to account’s premium feed
  3. Subscribe to feed.
  4. Attempt to download an episode.
  5. Receive error.

Environment: Nothing changed from one week to the next. I’ve been using this AntennaPod to listen to this podcast feed for about a year without issue. I have attempted to delete the podcast entirely from AntennaPod and add it again fresh but that doesn’t change anything. Using the feed ahs never required the use of any credentials being entered, so I’m unsure why authentication would now be required.

Did you save your username and password for this podcast in Antennapod?

Go to Subscriptions and find the podcast. Tap

From the channel / episode view, tap the gear.

Tap authentication

Enter Username and Password. Tap confirm

Hopefully you should be good to go. Ensure you have no typos for the Username and Password.

This podcast has never required entering a username and password, and there is not a username and password saved in the config for the feed.

You mention it’s a premium podcast though. Usually those are for paying members and don’t have ads, maybe bonus materials, or may be released earlier. And behind a username/password for authentication.

It is a premium feed, but I believe they are generating a unique feed per user. When I sign into the website there, they do authentication strictly by email code so there is no associated password for me to enter. Also, their own support and instructions have not mentioned the use of credentials to access the feed.

You’ll have to take this up with the podcast themselves. This doesn’t sound like it’s an application issue or a config issue. Seems like something broke on their side with how they do their feed.

Hello @hybridhavoc – I work with the distributor and we updated a bug that was impacting our enclosure URLs for this private Hyperfixed feed. Can you try refreshing the feed within AntennaPod and downloading an episode again to see if our update this fixes this particular error for you?

It sounds like the server is now returning an HTTP authentication response for the episode downloads

While I have moved away from AntennaPod, I can confirm from other Hyperfixed subscribers that it is working now. Thanks!
