No longer posting actively on Twitter/X

I’ve had reservations with Twitter/X for a long time, with the direction it’s been taking. X has already been used (by its CEO) to spread misinformation and fake news. But as of tomorrow, 20 January, the platform’s CEO is also a close advisor to a (extreme-right) government, so we can consider it as a platform for government propaganda.
I’ll therefore stop actively posting new content to X, and only reply to comments addressing us directly.

We’re already on Bluesky, to which a lot of people migrated from X recently (which, as a side note, is not much better at a technical level as it’s neither open source nor decentralised). And we’re on the Fediverse via Mastodon, of course.

Seeing Bluesky as the ‘replacement’ platform for X (as it is for many people), we yet have to catch up on our follower count. With 378 vs 2290 followers, I’m hopeful we can build our follower base there to the level that we currently have on X (or, even better: Mastodon, where we have 5836 followers).

Thanks for taking a stand on not posting to X. You may get some blowback, but I support your choice.

Proud to be part of the AP team!

The coolest thing, well, if one uses RSS, is that any mastodon URL with “.rss” appended on becomes a feed.

Thus, the AntennaPod account’s RSS would be AntennaPod

One doesn’t even need to have a Fediverse account and follow others if you’ve got other RSS feeds and don’t intend to reply.

What got/gets posted on Twitter/Bluesky that is not also posted on here? Presumably anything relevant to the general user is posted here?

I only have a Twitter account for contacting people/organisations not generally available in any other way.

One of the benefits of having an account on any given social platform is the URL in the profile, leading those who frequent that platform to this web site. The account is also a stake in the ground that prevents imposters from taking the account name and then sharing their own URL.

Right. We announce blog posts and new releases. They’re not always posted on the forum in the same way (blog posts sometimes get drafted in a privileged category and release notes are prepared publicly, but on the socials it’s really when it’s available on all channels while on the forum it’s before release).

Absolutely – two of the reasons why we’re not giving up on the account itself (in addition to still being able to monitor what’s happening and providing support to users when needed).
