I would like to be able to have any ability to add new podcasts to my feed protected by a password, like a parental control type thing. I’ve yet to find such a feature in any podcast app and I personally know several people who would use such a thing to allow their kids (or to control themselves) to listen to specific podcasts only.
Admittedly I don’t know the first thing about coding or app development, so I have no idea how hard it would be to make such a thing, but it is a feature I feel would be quite valuable and would gain many users.
Been looking for this feature everywhere.
Alternative would be to enable age filtered searching
This would be a great function allowing my kids to use the app!
FYI I just created a Feature Request here, that you might find valuable as well: It is about limiting the daily listening time for kids (event when the app is in the background, which is not possible with Family Link or other apps).
App version: android
Problem you may be having, or feature you want:
Your app is my lifesaver for allowing my daughter to access her favorite podcasts independently, which is rare! (Even in paid apps designed for kids). It would be really perfect if you added the option to disable the ability to add new podcasts in the settings. This would ensure that the environment is perfectly secure for children, as it would be closed. Only parents could activate the ‘add subscriptions’ feature using a password. It would be truly wonderful if you could do this.

Adding on to this feature: it might also be useful to be able to exclude a podcast from the queue. I was voting/commenting on another feature which would allow continuous play from start to end of a podcast, rather than having the queue play only what is most recent from multiple podcasts. The main reason I want this feature is for kids podcasts which are usually sequential stories and must be listened in order. In addition, they are often short (15 or 20 mins) and it’s annoying (and dangerous when driving) to have to navigate and find the next episode often. As part of a kid profile or parental control, having the ability to listen to “excluded from queue” podcasts in series would be a lifesaver! Otherwise I just can’t use this as a parent, but highly recommend for those listening as individuals.
Just want to flag upfront that this only applies to iOS users, so may not be relevant to most here — but in case it helps anyone: I’m a dad and a programmer who wanted exactly this for my daughter, so I built a simple iOS podcast app called Gertrude AM. The parent sets a 6-digit PIN on first install, and that PIN is required to search for or add new shows. Kids can listen to whatever you’ve approved, but they can’t search for or subscribe to anything new without the parent putting in the code. More info here if it’s useful: Gertrude AM - A Safe Podcast App For Kids
I’ve gotten several requests to port this to Android, and I am toying with the idea, but I’m not an Android dev, much more of an iOS developer, so if AntennaPod did this, I could point them here instead. ![]()
