Podcast search/discovery screen stays empty on Fairphone 6 (Android 16)

App version: 3.11.4 (Play Store)

Android version: Android 16 (Stock Fairphone OS, no custom ROM)

Device model: Fairphone 6 (FP6)

Expected behaviour:

Searching for podcasts should return matching results. The discovery screen should display podcasts matching the entered search term.

Current behaviour:

The discovery/search screen always remains empty. No loading indicator is shown and no error message appears.

However:

  • Existing podcast subscriptions refresh normally.

  • Episode downloads work normally.

  • Adding a podcast by entering a direct RSS feed URL works correctly.

So the issue seems to affect only the podcast discovery/search feature.

First occurred:

I noticed it today (31 July 2026). I cannot say exactly when it started.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Open AntennaPod.

  2. Tap Add Podcast.

  3. Enter any search term (for example: “Lage der Nation” or “Chaosradio”).

  4. Wait for results.

Result:
The screen stays empty. No loading spinner, no error message, and no search results are displayed.

Environment:

  • Installed from Google Play Store.

  • Internet connection is working (Wi-Fi and mobile data tested).

  • Existing subscriptions update successfully.

  • Manual RSS subscription works (example: The Daily ).

  • No custom ROM.

Update: After some more testing, I noticed that podcast search itself actually works. Search results appear quickly. However, opening a podcast from the search results takes about 1–2 minutes before the podcast details are displayed. Until then, the screen stays completely empty without any loading indicator, making it look like the search is broken. Existing subscriptions and manual RSS feeds work normally.

I first noticed this yesterday, July 30th, just after updating Android version FP6.QREL.16.95.0 / kernel 6.1.129-android14-11. Also on a Fairphone 6.

Other than you, search did not work for me, but other than that it was very similar - until just now when I wanted to take a screenshot and it suddenly worked again for a few seconds, without any updates. Next search and it’s broken again. After waiting for about a minute, an error shows up, saying the URL I clicked on is not a valid podcast URL:

Switching between Wifi and mobile data does not make a difference.
