Problem accessing file system to import OPML

App version: 3.8.0 (Google Play)

Android version: 14

Device model: Galaxy A25

Expected behaviour: 'Import podcast list (opml) should access the file system to import an opml file

Current behaviour: Nothing happens when clicking import podcast list. Meanwhile when I try to click ‘Add local folder’ I get an error message: ‘Unable to start system file manager’. Meanwhile over in Podkicker I can’t create a new opml (I am trying to export from Podkicker to Antennapod). So it seems that there is a problem with how the file system is interacting with these apps. I have been digging around and can’t find reference to this file system access issue anywhere.

I’m also having a lot of lags switching to and from the antennapod app.

First occurred: Yesterday, on first installation of antennapod. I have both reinstalled the app and rebooted the phone since then.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Click ‘add podcast’
  2. Click ‘Import podcast list (opml)’
  3. Nothing happens.

Environment: I’m trying out antennapod as a replacement for podkicker. So Podkicker is still on the phone.

This sounds like you tried to debloat your phone and disabled the system’s file manager app. Note that it needs to be the system file manager app, not third party file managers. Only the system one can properly grant file permissions to other apps.

Thanks. Is that the Samsung ‘my files’ app? That’s still active. I tried uninstalling the Google Files app but that does not seem to make any difference. I did try searching for other hidden file manager apps but nothing came up. What exactly should I look for? And if it is not there how do I get it back?

It is called “documents” and comes pre-installed on all android versions

It appears that I don’t have it! I have looked in Apps, with Show system apps on and filter by all.

Closest I get is com.google.android.overlay.modules.documentsui

I just played around with a Galaxy A35. The app is called “files” and the icon looks like this:

Happy day. I was able to restore Files using ADB AppControl (which is a truly wonderful program for managing your android via your PC) and both the OPML export from podkicker and the import to AntennaPod worked. Thanks for your help ByteHamster.
