I usually search for a well-known person and listen to a couple of their podcast episodes from different podcasts. I don’t want to subscribe to those podcast channels; I just want to download and save the specific episodes I’m interested in.
I currently use the Apple Podcasts web interface to find these episodes because it shows individual episodes separately from podcast channels.
Would it be possible to show individual episodes in AntennaPod’s search results as well, so that I can directly download and listen to them?
If that isn’t possible, another option would be to let users click on a podcast channel from the search results and immediately see episodes matching the search term. This would make it easy to find and download the relevant episodes.
If that is also not possible, perhaps a search box could be added when opening a podcast channel from the search results. Users could search within that specific podcast channel for the term and download the relevant episodes without having to subscribe to the channel.
This would make it much easier to find and listen to specific episodes without subscribing to podcasts that I don’t intend to follow.
That part’s easy. I just searched on a word that seemed interesting for test purposes, clicked on one of the podcasts in the search results, and clicked on one of the episodes in that podcast. I could have chosen to stream or download the episode at that point.
What’s not supported (so far as I know) is the search-within-a-search that you describe. If I wanted to do that I’d go to Google because it offers more search options and I could also find episodes from other media. From those results I’d go to AntennaPod (for podcasts) or YouTube or other sites where the media lives and listen to the episode(s) that look interesting.
I think this feature would help people who like to find podcast episodes instead of listening to entire podcast channels. If I could search for an episode and download it without needing to follow the channel it would be a lot easier.
If it is hard to make a search for episodes then I could look inside a podcast channel from the search results. A search box that only looks inside a channel could be useful for people who already know the podcast but want only episodes, about a certain topic.
I didn’t understand why you were saying it was easy. You can download or stream latest episodes or random episodes without subscribing the channel. I am not testing the app but looking for a specific episode. That is not easy; I need to scroll and locate that episode.
How do you search podcast episodes via Google? I was using Google podcast app and it was easy to search episodes but I couldn’t figure out how to search podcast episodes in google. I usually use apple podcast web interface.
As you observed, downloading or streaming episodes is easy in AntennaPod, with or without subscribing. I am agreeing with you that search-within-a-search (episode search within a podcast search) is not something AntennaPod can do (so far as I know).
Like you, I was a Google Podcasts user before they discontinued it. My point was that if I want to find podcasts that include a particular person or topic, I Google it to see what’s out there. Just now for a test I Googled “mike rowe podcast guest” and got a variety of things including his own podcast and other podcasts where he is the guest. Some were on YouTube or Facebook, and I’d click through to those from the search results because of course you can’t access them via a podcast app.
The search results also included a PodChaser list of Mike Rowe’s Podcast Credits & Interviews, which is probably more like what you were thinking of. If I wanted to watch his episode on The Dr. Laura Podcast I’d search for that podcast in AntennaPod and select the July 20 episode. It’s not search-within-a-search inside AntennaPod, but it works for me.
