Problem you may be having, or feature you want:
When my phone reconnects to my car via Android Auto, the episode in the queue automatically resumes playing. While some like this, I do not and prefer to manually select “Play” if I’m interested in listening then.
I have the “Start Music Automatically” switch in Android Auto turned “off” but this behavior persists.
Suggested solution:
Preferred solution: Have AntennaPod follow the “Start Music Automatically” setting in Android Auto.
Next best solution: Add a setting in AntennaPod so users can choose whether or not they wish to have podcasts automatically resume when connecting via Android Auto.
I’m not an Android Auto user so I don’t know what the available options are, but I have to wonder if “Start Music Automatically” is an appropriate option for a podcast app to follow.
It is for me when I am partway listening to a podcast through earphones when I get into my car and want to continue playback through the car radio. Why would you think it is not appropriate for podcast listening?
Podcasts are not music - at least not the podcasts I listen to
I use a different app for music than I use for podcasts, and I would expect a “Start Music Automatically” setting to apply specifically to music. Again, I have no experience with Android Auto, I’m just talking about what’s intuitive.
Ah! So it is the use of the term Music as shorthand for any audio media that you find incongruent.
As it happens I use an audiobook player app as my main music player as that has the functionality I want that seems to be missing from the usual suspect music player apps and cope just fine with the different nomenclature used (ie book for album and chapter for track).
For me, this app will automatically start playing in the car even if I was listening to a different app right before I walked out the door. It overrides the app I was just listening to.
I have found that to be so for me too. Regardless of what I was listening to before, and regardless of whether I want to listen to a podcast at that time, AntennaPod starts playing when connected to Android Auto.
