As this doesn’t seem to be getting any traction, could we please have some very simple setting “don’t pause video playback on screen off”?
My use case is listening to video podcasts where 90% of the time, the video provides no addditional information. The phone is in my pocket and I’m listening through my headphones. When the host says “as you can see here…” I pull the phone out and look at the picture, then put the phone back away.
The reason I switched to AntennaPod from VLC is the background playback behavior:
- AntennaPod pauses playback when I turn the screen back off after checking it, which is obnoxious but I can fix that with a single press of my headset button
- VLC turns into an absolute nightmare of having to click through convoluted menus to get it back playing as video, then gets stuck in a loop of repeating a 0.2 second segment for about five seconds when putting it back into my pocket.
So honestly, I’d prefer if I could configure AntennaPod to just continue playing without trying to do something fancy. I also don’t think this should be the default, as it only works for some podcasts.
