Widget is broken after a few minutes of stopping

Widget playback is completely broken when you pause playing for a few minutes.. and you need to go to open the application again.. you can’t resume playing from the widget.. even though I set the battery to unrestricted and enabled background playback.

Agree, using pixel 8a.

Same. Pixel 10 Pro w/AntennaPod version (v3.12.0) and latest Android 17 update Although this issue has persisted for many iterations of Pixels & Android.

The tile was the workaround that allowed me to ignore the OS bug as it returned the functionality I was missing when they broker persistent notification media player. Now they took the tile away too so I’m back to being annoyed by the work flow to resume a podcast dozens of times per day. It’s probably my most used interaction with my phone.

My guess is the media player card in the notification bar going away after a few minutes started around the time Google Implemented the “Doze” functionality to the OS that has caused so many issues for so many.

This “feature” is idiotic and I absolutely hate that Google has decided for me that battery life is paramount to the phone actually doing phone things and I can control this is a user. What good is my phone to me throughout the day if I don’t get important push notifications but arrive at 30% or more battery remaining each night? As an added bonus, I work from home and have access to a charger all day if I need it.

I don’t need battery life, I need my phone to work. But I have no way to control this as an end user. Terrible implementation of such an impactful function of an OS to make up for poor tensor chip efficiency.

Please fix this. Thanks!

Same for me. It’s been like this for about 2 weeks I believe.

I’d downgrade but it seems I’d lose all my subscriptions and settings so I’ll wait a bit longer.

3.12.1 fixes this. It is already starting to roll out to a small random percentage of users. Because this version contains a more risky change as well, give it 1-2 weeks before it gets rolled out to everyone.

Thanks for the update.

waiting (not so) patiently

3.12.1 should be available on Google now, F-Droid will follow

Installed 3.12.1 on a Pixel 10 Pro w/latest stable Android version and it still seems to aggressively close my media player notification bar panel after several minutes of paused activity. This makes it so that I can no longer just resume the track/podcast dozens of times per day. Between this and the elimination of the permanent notification tile it has become a very laborious multi-click process each time I want to resume playing throught the day.

You are talking about the notification bar. That is not the widget, it’s an entirely different part of the app. You are in the wrong thread here.
