I switched off auto-delete some time ago (see Less aggressive auto-delete). Now I have 100s of played episodes on my phone and no good way to delete them.
There’s no way to delete all of the played episodes. In fact there doesn’t even seem to be a way to delete episodes in bulk at all.
Suggested solution:
Have a way to bulk-delete downloads that are played.

I assume you can see the list of episodes? If so, long press on one of the episodes and select Multi select at the bottom of the screen.
There are 457 episodes in my download list. I would really rather have the computer do the tedious work.
So go into the Downloads screen, long press on the first episode, select Multi select and then select all of the episodes and delete. It’s 15 seconds of work.
I didn’t want to delete all of the episodes because there are a bunch of unplayed episodes too. However there is a “select all below” option when I long press an episode while in multi-select mode. Not very discoverable but it worked. Thanks.
