Finnish translations

Hello! I have done the Weblate section for Finnish. I would like to continue to help getting it forward.

Hi!

Since you did all the components, we can continue by finishing the store listing screenshots and pushing the website translation.

For the first, I created the Screenshot Titles component. Please let me know when it is ready, so I can generate the previews for you to check.

For the second, I’ll generate a website preview for you to proofread as soon as I can.

Thanks for contributing!

I have completed the Screenshots component. I will next do the previews and website previews.

Thank you

I’ve just deployed the preview website. You can check it out here: AntennaPod – Avoin Podcast-soitin

Also, on the language selector, it should show the language name in that language. For finnish, I put Suomi there, but I’m not sure it is right, specially the spelling. Can tell me which term should web put there?

Suomi is correct. I will make some changes to the weblate strings to make it better based on the preview.

I corrected the strings I saw on the preview website.

Not sure how to contribute on Weblate but added a suggested edit. There was a minor typo on one of the translated texts. ”Podcasteihin uppoutuneihin” –> “Podcasteihin uppoutuneiden".

Thank you for the help. There are definitely more things to fix there. I did the things that jumped in the eyes on all of the documentation and some other around the preview.

Hi,

I’ve generated the screenshots previews. Do they look alright?

edit: I’ve also updated the preview website with the new translations from weblate. You can check it out on the same link: AntennaPod – Avoin Podcast-soitin

For me they look alright. The tone is a bit machine-translated-ish but that would be nitpicking and probably not something a normal user would notice

If you want to improve the tone, that would be very welcome  After all, that’s our main website that users see

I think the “Mukauta AntennaPodia sopimaan tarpeisiisi” is the one that is understandable but no one says like that.

That and “toista älykkäästi". I don’t think smart is the word that folks around here would use in that context. Can’t think of any alternatives from the top of my head though.

I was also thinking “podcasteja" could be switched to “podeja" but not sure if It’s too colloquial and/or unfamiliar to some regions or generations.

Here would be my suggestions for a bit more natural-sounding translations:

”Mukauta Antennapodia sopimaan tarpeisiisi" → “Muokkaa Antennapodista sellainen kuin haluat”
“Valitse sinulle mieleisin teema” → “Valitse haluamasi teema”
“Toista älykkäästi valitsemallasi nopeudella” → “Kuuntele haluamallasi nopeudella”

I think these are good, but a bit commandish. I haven’t looked what other apps have in their screenshots.

Fair enough. I was thinking of a hypothetical user with feature requirements and how the app facilitates user needs but maybe it came out wrong.

I have no idea what those say but if they sound more natural and less machine-translated that generally sounds like a good change

I think the 2 last are very good but also think “Tee AntennaPodista omasi” could be

Not bad either but I find it digressing from the original phrase a bit. “Make it your own" IMO sounds corporate market jargon in both languages. But anyway I’m no dev nor designer in any shape or form so I probably have no idea on how normal people read it :person_shrugging:

Hi, AI flagged a couple of typos in the Finnish translations for the app. Would you mind taking a look and maybe fixing those in Weblate if the AI is right? Translations update from Hosted Weblate by weblate · Pull Request #8375 · AntennaPod/AntennaPod · GitHub
