Remove Podcast not showing up on menu

App version: 3.10.2 from Google Play

Android version: 16

Device model: Pixel 8a

Expected behaviour: Expect to see the choice “Remove Podcast” from the pull down menu when I click on a podcast on the subscription page.

Current behaviour: The menu includes other options including Delete/Archive, but does not include Remove Podcast.

First occurred: Today

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Go to subscription page
  2. Click on podcast I want to unsubscribe
  3. I don’t see “Remove Podcast” in the men

Environment: I’ve only been using AntennaPod for a month, this is the first time I’ve tried to unsubscribe from a podcast.

What would “Remove Podcast” accomplish that the existing “Delete / Archive” functions do not?

The instructions I’ve found indicated there was a “Remove Podcast” in the menu, I wanted to know why I don’t see that. The delete function sounds like it removes all the episodes but does not stop future downloads. The archive function hides it from getting future updates but keeps downloads and statistics, which I’m not interested in. I guess the Archive is closest to what I want to do.

When you remove/archive a podcast you choose either to delete podcast and all that it’s related to it. It will be like you never added it. But if you chose to archive then podcast will be hidden and it won’t do anything, same way as if you deleted it. The difference is that downloaded episodes, favorites, stats are kept.

Doesn’t it allow you to do what you want? When removing / archiving it should explain it. What is your language? Is there a translation problem?

I have been using this app about 6 months and also cannot find the Remove Podcast option - and it 100% used to be there. Surprised more people have not noticed….also hoping this will get fixed

It’s still there, but it’s now more concisely called Delete, under the “Delete / Archive” option. The other option there, Archive, was recently added by popular demand.

Where did you find those instructions? Do you have a link please?

thank you. Delete works. I am not sure that I ever followed internet instructions before as “Remove Podcast” was intuitive…when I was troubleshooting today I came across the thread below - which lead me to believe there was still a Remove option..

anyway, if Delete unfollows the podcast, I am good to go and appreciate your quick and helpful reply.

I found a few references to it being in the menu, here is one from the forum.

I agree, if delete unfollows the podcast that works for me.

Would it help if we replace the text ‘Delete / archive’ with ‘Remove’ or ‘Unsubscribe’?

I kinda like the latter; it’s clear and then you get the screen where you can choose how you want to unsubscribe (maintaining or deleting your data).

Yes, I think “unsubscribe”, then get the choice to maintain or delete data.

I struggled with this today. There used to be an “unsubscribed” option. I finally figured it out though. But I think it makes sense to have “Unsubscribe” since I “Subscribed” to begin with. Logical flow

Yeah I ran into this issue today.

The language generally used is “Subscribe/Unsubscribe”

“Delete” sounds like it removes downloaded episodes from your device. “Archive” could mean anything… doesn’t delete but compresses and stores the episodes somewhere?

Now that I’ve found this thread and discovered “Unsubscribe” was rebranded as “Delete” I know how to unsubscribe from podcasts I’m no longer/not currently interested in. I don’t think most users would get that far before uninstalling.

It does. When taping delete/archive there is an explanation what both do and which one you actually want. It’s also possible to abort at this point.

Maybe only remove should be used as action since afterward there is choice. It feels ok for me as it is but a lot of people seems confused.

I got really frustrated not being able to figure out how to unsubscribe from a podcast in the app. Was really grateful that I found this thread in the forum.

After clicking on the 3 dots in the upper right in a podcast, adding an option that says “unsubscribe” would be the most intuitive to me for someone wanting to unsubscribe from a podcast.

I saw the “Delete/Archive” option and I found that choice to just be confusing. What would I be deleting? One episode? The whole podcast? Delete does not equal unsubscribe in my mind. Would love to see this option added if possible as I find it much clearer.

Yes, but to read the explanation. Someone has to tap delete. When I saw that option, my first thought was “delete what? I don’t want to delete anything. I want to unsubscribe”.

I literally came to this forum to to find out how to unsubscribe from a podcast. Before I pressed delete.

When it comes to any type of feed that people subscribe to. The commonly used and expected language is “subscribe/unsubscribe”. “Delete” sounds like a permanent change.

The option to keep/discard data is a nice touch. But it should be after the option to “unsubscribe” IMO.

Unsubscribing is a very permanent change. It irreversibly deletes your statistics, playback state, history, and downloads for that podcast.

Only if that’s what you make the button do though right?

It’d be just as easy to keep the current features, but instead of having it labelled as “delete” it says “Unsubscribe”. Like every other podcast app.

Now that I know “delete” actually just means “unsubscribe” it’s not really an issue for me anymore. But I doubt most users will come to a forum, sign up and ask about it.

I just renamed the button, will be released in the next update. However, keep in mind that it does permanently delete all information about that subscription. The text sounds harmless now, but what the button does (and did before, no change there) is not harmless at all.
